Suzanne Snizek

Bio

Suzanne Snizek is currently an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Victoria (BC, Canada), where she teaches flute, chamber music and courses in musicology. She holds a BMus (IU-Bloomington), a MMus (UArts) and a DMA (UBC-Vancouver); her teachers include Greg Blackburn, Maralyn Prestia- Schaub, Carol Wincenc, Peter Lloyd, Julius Baker, David Cramer and Lorna McGhee.

A prize winning flutist, Snizek has won the UArts Annual Concerto Competition, second place in the New York Flute Club Competition and first prize in the Mid-South Flute Competition (TN, US). An expert in Suppressed music, Snizek has published on and performed this repertoire extensively, including at Cambridge University (UK), l’École Militaire (Paris, France), Chutzpah! International Arts Festival (Vancouver), the Forum Voix Étoufées symposiums (Strasbourg and Berlin) and the University of Alberta (Edmonton). She is the 2017 REACH award recipient for “Excellence in Creative Expression” from the University of Victoria, where she recently recorded her first CD devoted to Suppressed music, titled “Chamber Music (Re)Discoveries.”
