Zoia Viazovskaya

Biography

Zoia Viazovskaya - flutist, soloist of the Black Square quartet, Altus Flutes artist.

Zoia graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2013 having studied with William Bennett OBE. Currently she is working a teacher in Gnessin Special Music School which is one of major music colleges in Moscow, Russia. During the past decade she has been giving masterclasses and lectures on a regular basis within the country and abroad including such events as William Bennett Summer School, Croatian Flute Academy, Richter Foundation Summer School, Flutissimo-Nice, Ayvalik International Flute Academy, La Cote flute festival and others.

Her concert career is concentrated on solo and ensemble performing. She tours within Russia and abroad appearing in festivals such as British Flute Society convention, Slovenian Flute Festival, Aldeburgh festival, La cote and other well-known flute events. She performs both classical repertoire and contemporary music.

Zoia is a front soloist of the Black Square Quartet - a well-known jazz-crossover band. The quartet is actively touring - being invited to both classical philharmonic halls and jazz venues, and eventually appearing on TV shows. Recently the BSQ has become the winner of a popular TV project "Quartet 4x4".

Zoia organises music festivals and competitions. Her project "Great Flute Days" in cooperation with Galina Kuzennaya has proved itself as the biggest international flute event in Russia in 2015-2017. Among the guests there were such artists as Denis Bouriakov, Trevor Wye, Matthias Ziegler, Raffaele Trevisani, William Bennett and Michie Bennett, Sibel Pensel, Clare Southworth etc.

Zoia is a devoted teacher. During 8 years of her teaching career, six of her former students have entered RAM and RCM (London), YSTCM (Singapore), Hochshule of music and drama (Cologne). 

Awards:

2010 - 2nd prize in Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition and Special Prize for the contemporary composition.
