Known for her expressive musicianship and compelling performances, flautist Anna Kondrashina
enjoys a varied international career spanning solo, orchestral, chamber music and historical
performance. A prizewinner of the prestigious Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan and
the Nicolet International Flute Competition in China, she is also a recipient of the Worshipful
Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal.
Anna’s international career has seen her appear as a soloist with the Buchmann-Mehta Symphony
Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta and with the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra. In the UK,
she is a sought-after orchestral musician, frequently performing as principal flute with the
Philharmonia Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Royal
Ballet Sinfonia. Her orchestral career has been shaped by several notable appointments, beginning
with the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Foyle Future Firsts Development Programme, followed
by the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Instrumental Fellowship Programme the following year. She was
subsequently appointed Associate Flute of the Philharmonia for the 2021–23 season.
Her performances have taken her to some of the world’s most celebrated venues, including
Carnegie Hall in New York, Musikverein in Vienna, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, National
Gallery in London and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She has collaborated with distinguished musicians
such as Trevor Pinnock, Rachel Podger and Denis Bouriakov, while her commitment to
contemporary music has led to new works being written for her by composers Noah Max and Paul
Henley, which she premiered in the UK.
Chamber music holds a special place in Anna’s musical life. A sensitive and versatile performer, she
regularly appears with the UK-based Ensemble 360. Her longstanding collaboration with pianist
and composer Pavel Timofeyevsky has developed into Rewired Music, a project devoted to
reimagining works for flute and piano. Together, they have created, performed and published a
collection of original arrangements, which also form the basis of their album of the same name.
Equally passionate about historical performance, Anna is a founding member of the baroque
ensemble Musica Aurora, with which she has toured Russia and Germany. She regularly performs
with leading period-instrument ensembles, including Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The
English Concert and Vache Baroque, appearing at festivals such as the Utrecht Early Music Festival
and MA Festival Brugge. Her work in this field has also included performances in the Kohn
Foundation Bach Cantatas Series at the Royal Academy of Music.
Born in Moscow into a family of musicians, Anna is the granddaughter of the celebrated Russian
conductor Kirill Kondrashin. She began her musical education at the Gnessin School of Music
before continuing her studies with Olga Ivusheikova at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State
Conservatory. She subsequently studied with Yossi Arnheim at the Buchmann-Mehta School of
Music in Tel Aviv, where she received an Artist’s Diploma and was awarded the Adler-Buchmann
Scholarship. Her studies later brought her to London, where she was awarded a full-fee scholarship
to pursue a Master of Arts in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with William
Bennett and further developing her interest in historical performance under the guidance of baroque
flautist Lisa Beznosiuk.
Now based in London, Anna enjoys a varied international career spanning solo, orchestral and
chamber music, alongside her work in historical performance. She has been an Altus Flutes artist
since 2020 and performs on a gold-plated Altus 1207 flute.
Drawing on her international training and performing experience, Anna is equally passionate about
sharing her knowledge with the next generation of musicians. She teaches at the London College of
Music, University of West London, and the Rachmaninoff Music Academy, and gave masterclasses
in Germany, Singapore and China. In 2018, she taught as an assistant teacher at the William Bennett
Summer School. Anna is also actively involved in educational outreach through the Philharmonia
Orchestra, Worshipful Company of Musicians and Vache Baroque, co-leading workshops in schools
across the UK, including those supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities
(SEND).
